Technique(s)

Date

Oct 2022

Description

A walkover survey was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2022 in advance of the development of the extension of the existing Limekilns Wind Farm, near Reay, Caithness. This follows a number of other surveys undertaken within the original wind farm area to the west of the proposed extension. The survey was designed to identify and record visible archaeological remains in the vicinity of the proposed extension development. As with previous surveys many areas of the existing woodland were inaccessible, and the survey was limited to open areas between dense forest ploughing and tree plantations. Seven features were noted across the extension area during the survey and include two round sheepfolds, a rectangular enclosure, a clearance cairn and two dykes. The survey results will be used to inform a further project design to cover work during the wind farm extension construction. <1>
