EHG5958 - Watching brief - housing development, Dalmore (Phase 6)
Technique(s)
Organisation
AOC Archaeology Group
Date
Oct-Nov 2022
Description
An archaeological watching brief was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2022 on land 200m southeast of Alness Academy, Dalmore, Alness, which forms Phase 6 of a larger housing development. The archaeological watching brief was required due to the proximity of the development to many significant prehistoric archaeological sites. The watching brief was carried out between 24th October and 16th November 2022. A total of 78 archaeological features were identified across the site including a post-defined roundhouse (Structure 1), a linear alignment of postholes, and several isolated pits and postholes. Three possible worked stone artefacts and fragments of animal bone were recovered from the site. A programme of post-excavation analysis was recommended. It was also recommended that any future ground-breaking on the development and in the immediate vicinity should be conducted under archaeological supervision. <1>
A second phase of watching brief was carried out in 2023 - see EHG6066.
