Description
An archaeological watching brief was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2021 north of Lairg as part of the installation of a single circuit 132kV overhead line and a section of underground cabling for Creag Riabhach Wind Farm. The monitoring was undertaken at the location of Crask Inn within an area of improved ground. In addition, demarcation was undertaken within an area of prehistoric settlement at Dalchork Wood. A 2m by 68m cable track and a 5m-by-5m jointing bay were excavated. The topsoil varied from 0.30m to 0.50m thick and was of a dark greyish brown peat, with minimal stone inclusions. The underlying natural consisted mostly of large stone boulders from 0.20m to 0.65m in diameter, interspersed with patches of light grey silty sand, particularly to the northern end of the trench. No finds or features of archaeological significance were uncovered. <1>
