Description
A watching brief was undertaken by Addyman Archaeology in 2021 at Coulmony Road, Nairn during ground reduction as part of the construction of a new forestry road. The public road lies on the route of the Old Military Road and a watching brief was maintained on groundbreaking works at the new junction between the existing forestry track and the public road. A profile through the bank and ditch was drawn prior to any groundbreaking works. These comprised reduction of the vegetation on the west side of the public road at the junction to a maximum depth of 0.1m. All excavation was undertaken by hand. A limited profile through the road itself was recorded but this did not reveal any historic sections of the road, only more recent resurfacing. A plan of the ditch was made prior to its infilling as part of the construction of the forestry road junction. <1>
