EHG5980 - DBA and walkover survey - proposed wind turbine, Torranan Slèibh, Evanton

Date
April 2020
Description
A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2020 to inform an environmental impact assessment in advance of the proposed erection of a single wind turbine at Torranan Slèibh (Cnoc nan Each) near Evanton. The assessment considered the potential for effects on cultural heritage and archaeology associated with the construction, operation and decommissioning of the proposed development. The Proposed Development site is largely located within forestry and along an existing track. Therefore, it was considered that any archaeological remains which might have survived in the footprint of the proposed access tracks and borrow pit are likely to have been truncated, damaged or destroyed. The proposed turbine lies in historically, undeveloped moorland where any hitherto remains would be expected to survive relatively undisturbed. However, the proposed turbine location is at an elevation generally regarded to have been beyond the limit of past settlement and as such any remains would probably relate to transhumance or land management practices. No direct effects upon designated or non-designated assets are anticipated during the operational phase. No new heritage assets were identified during the walkover survey. <1>
