EHG6004 - Trial trenching - housing development, Knock Shortie, Portmahomack
Technique(s)
Organisation
AOC Archaeology Group
Date
Feb 2023
Description
An archaeological trial trenching evaluation was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2023 ahead of a proposed small housing development at Knock Shortie, Portmahomack, Tain. The requirement arose as the development site has the potential for buried archaeology. An area of 190 m2 was excavated under direct archaeological supervision. This equated to approximately 10% of the total area of 1665 m². A known foul sewer main crosses through part of the site and the trench locations were altered slightly to ensure the buffer zone for the utility was respected. No archaeological features or deposits were identified during the evaluation. <1>
