Description
An archaeological desk-based assessment and walkover survey were carried out by West Coast Archaeological Services in 2023 in advance of site investigation works, tree clearance and the upgrade of the Scorguie Service Reservoir, Inverness. The area for investigation also included access tracks and a temporary site compound. The work was undertaken to assess the nature and extent of any archaeological sites likely to be affected within the areas outlined for the proposed development works in order to inform recommendations for the protection and management of any sites recovered. The desk-based assessment and investigation of aerial and LiDAR imagery covering the survey area, identified a number of potential archaeological sites and features in close proximity to the proposed works, while the walkover survey confirmed the presence of some of these sites and identified new sites. The recorded sites included a building, the possible footprint of a second building, a turf and stone dyke, and an old trackway dating to the post-medieval period and most likely relating to the settlement at Scorguie Lodge and associated activities. Mitigation measures were proposed to safeguard the sites during the development works. <1>
