Description

An archaeological watching brief was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2023 prior to the erection of a new biomass boiler plant room at the Doune, Rothiemurchus, near Aviemore. The watching brief requirement had arisen as the development site was located adjacent to Doune Motte, Scheduled Monument SM 9336. Topsoil was stripped from a c. 10m x 6m area for the foundations of the biomass boiler plant room. Two Ground Investigation Trial Pits were excavated to the east and west of this area. The topsoil removal uncovered subsoil which had been severely disturbed by services and large tree roots. The excavation of the two trial pits encountered no archaeological features or deposits. No further archaeological work was recommended. <1>
