Date

Description

An archaeological trial trenching evaluation was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2023 in advance of the construction of three houses with garages at land 100m southeast of Barrington at Lower Muckovie, Inshes, Inverness. The evaluation was required as the development site is located in an area deemed to have potential for the survival of buried archaeological remains. Ten trenches were excavated across the development site. The ground conditions were very poor, with all of the previous field drains destroyed and evidence for considerable reprofiling/infilling of the land during preceding decades. Only one feature, interpreted as a stone hole, was uncovered. No significant archaeological features or deposits were uncovered during the evaluation. Given the disturbed ground conditions, no further archaeological work was recommended. <1>
