EHG6087 - Geophysical survey - field SE of Tarradale House
Technique(s)
Organisation
University of Aberdeen
Date
Nov 2015
Description
A magnetometer survey was undertaken by O Sveinbjarnarson of the University of Aberdeen in 2015 to the southeast of Tarradale House in an attempt to locate below-ground remains of the motte and bailey of Tarradale Castle. Fieldwalking carried out by the Tarradale Archaeology Project had indentified a concentration of medieval finds in the area (see EHG6086). The survey gave a generally poor result, but there were slight indications of circular features (such as a ditch or bank) enclosing a central feature which may be equivalent to the motte, while on the lower level the western component of a ditched enclosure was apparent while the rest of the supposed Bailey enclosure may be indicated by rather fuzzy anomalies on the magnetometer survey. <1>
