Description
An additional walkover survey was undertaken by CFA Archaeology Ltd (CFA) in August 2023, in relation to the proposed habitat management plans and a borrow pit search area for the proposed Ourack Wind Farm, to the east of Dava. Previous survey had been undertaken by CFA in 2022 (see EHG5962). The objectives of the project were to undertake a walkover survey of a newly identified cairnfield and other sites yet to be surveyed in detail (8b-d, 19a-c and 20). Upstanding features related to the post-medieval farming landscape (8b-d, 8k, 19a-d, 20a-w, 23 and 24) were recorded, associated with the farmsteads at Rychraggan (20), Ruighsean (8) and Aittendow (7). A group of 54 clearance cairns (22a) and a possible hut circle (22b) were surveyed to the north of Aittendow, associated with a prehistoric settlement of possible Bronze Age date and of a similar character to a previously recorded cairnfield (9a) to the west. The results of the walkover survey were intended to inform a programme of mitigation works, to be detailed in a Written Scheme of Investigation (WSI). <1>
