Technique(s)

Organisation

Highland Archaeology Services Ltd

Date

Sept 2023

Description

A rapid walkover survey was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2023 in advance of the development of four ‘bothies’, an office/store and a car parking area in an area near Castletown, Caithness. The area of the development and individual features were recorded with a survey grade GPS unit, a description and photographs. The site of the of the four ‘bothies’ were examined for evidence of upstanding archaeological features which may have been impacted by the development. In addition, a basic survey of the current firing range at the site was undertaken. The current condition of the nearby Castlehill broch and the Scheduled C19 battery were also recorded. <1> Trial trenching was also carried out - see EHG6159.
