EHG6214 - Watching brief - new clubhouse, Royal Dornoch Golf Course
Technique(s)
Organisation
AOC Archaeology Group
Date
Jan-Feb 2024
Description
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2024 as a condition of planning consent in advance of the construction of a new clubhouse and associated works at Royal Dornoch Golf Course. Over the course of four weeks from 8th January to 7th February 2024, monitored machine excavation was carried out, covering the area for new road access, car parking, and the new clubhouse footprint. Despite the potential for archaeological remains, no features were observed during the watching brief. The deposits found were generally modern and re-deposited materials relating to previous landscaping events in the golf course’s history. Disruption to the natural underlying deposits was high and therefore accurately identifying archaeological features was not possible. <1>
