Description

An archaeological trial trenching evaluation was undertaken by CFA Archaeology in 2024 on the site of a proposed Health and Social Care Hub and adjacent housing allocation site at The Glebe, Tongue, Sutherland. Twenty-eight trenches were excavated with a total coverage of 1503m². Other than a field drain in Trenches 9 and 12, no features were recorded. The topography of the site was clearly a limiting factor in the potential for archaeological remains to be present. In addition, the natural drainage was variable, with areas of waterlogging. There were also localised bedrock outcrops and a very stony drift geology. No evidence was recorded to indicate it had been ploughed in the past. CFA recommended that no further work is required within the area covering the proposed Health and Social Care Hub and the adjacent housing allocation site. <1>
