Date

April 2024

Description

A pre-afforestation walkover survey was conducted by Argyll Archaeology in 2024 over c. 120 hectares of land located within Gleann Cia-aig, located at the east end of Loch Arkaig to the north of Achnacarry. Twenty-seven sites of archaeological or historical interest were recorded within or adjacent to the boundary of the surveyed area. The sites comprised shielings, twinning pens and a single stone walled enclosure. It was recommended that an appropriate buffer zone of no physical disturbance be maintained around all the significant features. In addition it was recommended that where possible, lines of sight between individual features are maintained where sites occur in a cluster, e.g. the cluster of shielings (Sites 2-16 & 26 & 27) and the southern cluster of sites (Sites 20-23). <1>
