Date

April 2024

Description

A pre-afforestation walkover survey was conducted by Argyll Archaeology in 2024 over c. 123 hectares of land located adjacent to Invermallie, located on the southern side of Loch Arkaig to the west of Achnacarry. Only eight sites of archaeological or historical interest were recorded within or adjacent to the boundary of the surveyed area. The sites comprised probable dwelling structures and a single stone and earthen enclosure. It was recommended that an appropriate buffer zone of no physical disturbance be maintained around all the significant features. In addition it was recommended that where possible, lines of sight between individual features are maintained where sites occur in a cluster, e.g. the cluster of structures, Sites 2, 3, 5 and perhaps also Site 4. Care should be taken to avoid damaging those sites (Sites 6, 7, & 8) just located outside the planting boundary during preparatory and planting works. <1>
