EHG6273 - DBA and walkover survey - proposed Loch Kemp pumped storage scheme
Technique(s)
Organisation
Catherine Dagg
Date
Aug 2021
Description
A desk-based assessmet and walkover survey were undertaken by C Dagg in order to assess the effects on archaeology and cultural heritage interests associated with the development of a proposed pumped storage scheme centred on Loch Kemp to inform an environmental impact assessment.
Three non-designated assets were identified within a 100 m buffer of the proposed development, one of local and two of regional value. Direct impacts from inundation were predicted for the site of local value during operation, and potential direct impacts were predicted through widening or construction of access roads on minor features associated with one site of regional value during construction. The potential for unidentified archaeological remains was considered to be low to insignificant at the site. Mitigation to protect the archaeological record was recommended for one non-designated asset during the construction phase, as well as the implementation of general good practice measures. There were no predicted impacts on the second site of local value. With the implementation of mitigation measures, no significant effects were predicted on any site directly impacted by the proposed development. <1>
