Date
2017
Description
A desk-based assessment was undertaken by CFA Archaeology in 2017 of the proposed Ourack Wind Farm development site. The specific objectives of the study were to identify the cultural heritage baseline within and in the vicinity of the proposed development sit and to assess the proposed development site in terms of its archaeological potential. The proposed development site red line boundary was used for the identification of heritage assets and historic landscape features that could be directly affected. Sixteen heritage assets were identified.
The proposed development site was found to consist of mostly upland heather moorland managed as grouse moor. The land was mostly above 300m, rising to 546m at Carn Ruighe an Uain and northwest facing. The pattern of settlement evidenced by historical and modern maps suggested that away from any watercourses the area of the proposed wind farm had a low or negligible archaeological potential for the discovery of remains of any period from the prehistoric through to the post-medieval period. <1>
