EHG6282 - Watching brief - new bonded warehousing, Invergordon
Technique(s)
Organisation
AOC Archaeology Group
Date
March-May 2024
Description
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2024 during initial groundworks and site clearance of a greenfield site adjacent to Academy Road, Invergordon. The works followed an initial trial trenching phase undertaken the previous year (see EHG6137). Over the course of several visits to monitor groundbreaking by machine, a series of archaeological features were identified. The watching brief uncovered a total of 64 features, including 49 pits, 6 ditches, and 2 postholes. Several additional natural and modern features, as well as an animal burial, were also discovered. The features recorded across the site displayed no discernible patterns that would indicate complex structures. A programme of post-excavation processing and assessment of the samples and small finds by relevant specialists was recommended. It was recommended that all future phases of the development should be subject to continued archaeological mitigation as there remained potential for further archaeological features and deposits within this locality. <1>
