Description

An archaeological watching brief was carried out by Highland Archaeology Services in 2024 during GI works ahead of the development of a proposed new battery storage facility in Spittal, Caithiness. This was carried out pre-planning in line with best practice. The watching brief took place in mainly dry and sunny conditions with one day of cold heavy rain. Twenty-three test pits and and three soakaway pits were excavated, within which only one feature was encountered and recorded. This feature was a stone filled field drain aligned north east to south west across test pit 15 and was not considered to be archaeologically significant. Therefore, no further post excavation archaeological work was recommended for the GI phase of the project. <1>
