Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2024 in advance of the construction of a new windfarm at Limekilns Forest, Reay, Highland. Previous work had included three phases of walkover survey and watching briefs on sight access. Marking out, targeted excavation and a watching brief were undertaken on the site particularly focusing on a cairn field at Achvarasdal Farmstead. Here six cairns were excavated under archaeological supervision prior to a watching brief for the new turbine pad. The cairns were all found to be clearance and the site was almost sterile of finds with only one small copper alloy pan and three small fragments of modern ceramic noted. Aside from the cairns all noted upstanding features were safeguarded and no further work was recommended.
