Description

An archaeological watching brief strip and record project undertaken by Avon Archaeology (Highland) in 2024 as part of preliminary groundworks for a new dwelling and SUDS at a greenfield site located 35m SW of 2 Little Kildrummie Cottages, Nairn. The strip and record project was designed to identify, record and characterise all significant buried archaeological deposits, features and finds revealed during the course of preliminary ground works, in particular the preservation of buried features or deposits associated with prehistoric funerary and/or settlement-related activity, which was recorded widely in the area. The watching brief fieldwork recorded a uniform and simple sequence of deposits across the development areas comprising stone-free topsoil up to 700mm deep overlying an undisturbed natural substrate of gravelly sands. The site was archaeologically sterile - no significant archaeological deposits, features or finds were revealed, and no further archaeological mitigation was recommended. <1>
