Date
April 2024
Description
A walkover survey was undertaken by Addyman Archaeology in 2024 at lands south of Shore Road, Dornoch, in advance of the proposed development of the site into a new distillery, associated warehousing and visitor centre. The site comprised a former gas works, later an abattoir, building, built in the 1840s and converted to slaughterhouse use in 1885. The walkover survey encompassed the whole of the proposed development area which included a greenfield site to the south of the standing buildings. The area was grassed and generally flat; no archaeological features were recorded. <1>
See EHG6336 for a related historic building survey and EHG6334 for a subsequent trial trenching evaluation.
