Description
Basic historic building recording was undertaken by Addyman Archaeology in 2024 at the former gas works and abattoir complex south of Shore Road, Dornoch, Sutherland. The works are in advance of the proposed development of the site into a new distillery, associated warehousing and visitor centre. The site comprised a former gas works, later an abattoir, building, built in the 1840s and converted to slaughterhouse use in 1885. The historic building record identified the early historic fabric of the original gasworks in the southern buildings on site. These had been altered and extended to the north in the course of its life; buildings to the east had been demolished. <1>
See EHG6335 for a related walkover survey and EHG6334 for a subsequent trial trenching evaluation.
