Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2024 during the development of a new house and outbuilding at Altass, Highland. As noted in the planning application, tracks and ponds to the north of the site had already been developed on the site. In addition to this disturbance, the house and outbuilding footprints had already been stripped prior to planning being granted. Fieldwork was undertaken on 28th October 2024. During the watching brief the house footprint was cleaned and a small additional area opened. The outbuilding area was inspected and was found to have been excavated well into the natural. No archaeological features were noted on any part of the site, therefore no further archaeological work during this phase of the development was recommended. However, it was recommended that if more excavation is required for the proposed ground source heating system any new ground breaking should be subject to a watching brief. <1>
