Description

An archaeological desk based assessment and walkover survey were undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2924 in advance of a proposed affordable housing development project on the Old Hydroponicum site in Achiltibuie, Highland. This site is now known as Achagarry. A desk-based assessment established the baseline of recorded sites of archaeological interest. The survey was designed to identify and record visible archaeological remains in the vicinity of the proposed site. In addition, the disturbance from previous work on the site was recorded. The survey identified 10 features, 3 of which were not previously recorded. It was recommended that photographs be taken of W1 (An Tigh Geal) once the vegetation and modern detritus has been removed from the structure, and these submitted to the Highland HER. Also, if any ground breaking was to take place within the structure or the immediate vicinity of it then monitoring of the works by a qualified archaeologist should take place. In addition, an information board on the history of the structure be installed after stabilisation work has been completed. <1>
