Date

Dec 2024

Description

A trial trenching evaluation was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2024 in advance of the erection of a clubhouse, incorporating various elements including access road, parking, paths, pond and landscaping in the Westhill area of Inverness, Highland. Unfortunately, the developer had undertaken works without archaeological supervision and therefore a site visit took place on the 12th of November 2024 to identify where trial trenches could be placed. Much of the site had either been disturbed by plant or had been landscaped with hardcore prior to the visit. Trenches were proposed in areas which had not been excavated during the development but also in disturbed areas in case it was possible to identify any surviving archaeological remains. Fieldwork was undertaken on 16th December 2024. The start of the day was heavy rain although the rain eased off during the day. Eleven trenches were opened, which covered an area of 4.3% of the development site. Four rubble drains were recorded but no other archaeological features were encountered during the works, therefore no further archaeological work was recommended. <1>
