Date
Aug-Dec 2024
Description
A two-phase watching brief was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2024 during the enabling works for a new primary school and housing estate in Dunvegan, Isle of Skye. This phase included the construction of main access roads, Cul-de-sac 1, and Suds area. An archaeological desk-based assessment was conducted ahead of the watching brief, this found the wider area to have both prehistoric and post medieval features, whilst the immediate area had an unknown archaeological potential. The initial watching brief was conducted between the 5th and 15th of August 2024. Several field drains were recorded as well as a small pit. A second phase of watching brief was conducted on the 6th of December 2024, one linear ditch, a modern pit, and a peat formation layer was recorded. As there were no archaeologically significant features, no further archaeological works are recommended. <1>
