Description
A watching brief was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2025 during ground excavation of anchor pits required as part of the erection of an anemometer mast at Tormsdale, Thurso, Caithness. A total of twelve anchor pits were excavated across the site. All excavations were conducted my machine working under constant archaeological supervision. The test pits measured between 3.9m and 2.7m long by a more uniform 1.2m wide. All twelve anchor pits were cut through a rough turf pasture and to a consistent depth of 2.5m. No significant archaeological features, deposits, or artefacts were found. <1>
