Date

Description
An archaeological desk-based assessment and walkover survey were carried out by West Coast Archaeological Services in 2025 in advance of proposed woodland creation and regeneration schemes, Black Hills, Knoydart. The work was undertaken to assess the nature and extent of any archaeological sites likely to be affected within the three areas outlined for planting and regeneration and to inform recommendations for the protection and management of any sites recovered. The surveys, carried out between the 27th of April and 3rd of May 2025, identified 28 sites of archaeological interest, some comprising multiple structures and features, including buildings, shielings, pens, enclosures, boundary walls, field systems, and rig and furrow cultivation. Mitigation measures were proposed to safeguard the sites during the establishment of the woodland creation projects. <1>
