EHG6424 - LiDAR survey - proposed Glen Ullinish II Wind Farm, Skye

Date

2022-23

Description

Aerial LiDAR surveys suitable for archaeological prospection, though ostensibly for groundwater/engineering purposes, were undertaken in 2022-23 covering the central area of the Inner Study Area North of the proposed Glenn Ullinish II Wind Farm. A composite Digital Terrain Model (‘DTM’) was created by removing objects from the raw lidar data and averaging the remaining ground level data to create a spatial resolution of 1m. Analysis of LiDAR data for the prospection of hitherto unknown archaeological remains was processed and undertaken by an experienced professional archaeologist using QGIS imaging and geo-referencing/mapping software. An enclosure defined by a turf bank (HA20) was identified approximately 290m southeast of T20. The asset was noted during the site visit (see EHG6423). A possible roughly north-south running field boundary (HA34) was noted on LiDAR imagery although no remains of the asset was noted during the site visit. No other new features within the footprint of the proposed development were noted on the LiDAR data. <1>
