Organisation

Date

July 2025

Description

An archaeological walkover survey was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2025 across an area of ground on the Camusrory Estate in Knoydart, Highland, in order to inform on mitigation in advance of a native woodland planting scheme. No previously recorded heritage assets had been identified within the site, which was located on the south side of the Knoydart peninsula and appeared to have been sparsely settled and cultivated during the post-medieval period, with no earlier archaeological remains evident. The survey identified a total of 14 previously unrecorded archaeological assets within and directly adjacent to the site, comprising post-medieval settlement and cultivation remains including dwellings, enclosures, pens, dykes, a kiln and rig and furrow cultivation. In compliance with national and local planning policies, mitigation in the form of buffer zones surrounding the archaeological remains were recommended in order to protect the archaeological resource. <1>
