Date

Aug 2025

Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Avon Archaeology (Highland) in 2025 in Bernisdale, Skye, during preliminary topsoil stripping for three new holiday lodges and associated new services and access. Topsoil stripping for the development revealed a uniform and archaeologically sterile sequence of deposits in all areas, consisting of humic and vegetation-rich topsoil directly overlying an undisturbed natural substrate of variable silt-clay and patchy weathered bedrock. No significant archaeological deposits, features or finds of any kind were revealed. Unstratified artefacts were restricted to six sherds of modern White-ware pottery. No further archaeological mitigation was recommended. <1>
