Description

Alba Archaeology (Highland) Ltd was commissioned in July 2010 to undertake an archaeological watching brief at Achtuie, Drumnadrochit, Inverness-shire as part of a project for a new house and garage with associated access and services. Work on the house and garage plot was excavated using a 6-tonne tracked back-acting machine with a 1.8m wide straight-edged bucket. Supervision was conducted on areas where any new sub-surface ground works were to be carried out i.e. house plot , garage and access road. A total area of 323m² was stripped of topsoil on average 25cm in depth across the site for the house plot to an area roughly 18m NE-SW by 19m NW-SE. No archaeological features or deposits were revealed and no recommendations for further archaeological work were proposed. <1>
