Description

A geophysical survey, intended to inform a programme of trial trenching, at Holm Mains, Inverness, was carried out by Geoquest Associates in 2000. The survey, which consisted of the use of gradiometer, was carried out in a 50% sampling scheme in the form of 20m wide strips, employed over most of the study area, while 100% survey was used in the northern part of the site in order to fully identify features that may have been associated with the site of a known motte. A number of geophysical anomalies of potential archaeological interest were mapped. <1> For the subsequent trial trenching evaluation see EHG3.
