Full Description

At NH 6358 9306 is an oval stone-walled hut, with several stone clearance heaps nearby from contemporary cultivation plots.
The hut is defined by a wall spread to c2.5m in W from where it deteriorates until it is scarcely visible in NE. It measures c10m N-S by c8m between wall centres. A gap in SSE denotes entrance.
Surveyed at 1/2500. Visited by OS (A A) 27 September 1973.

No change Visited by OS (J B) 1 September 1980.

The hut circle is visible in Scottish Gov/SEPA LiDAR data. <1>

During a walkover survey by C Dagg in 2022 in advance of a small development comprising two cabins access footpaths, drainage to a septic tank and soakaway, parking and a turning area just to the southwest, the site of the hut circle was visited. Although occupying prominent high ground, no trace of a roundhouse was visible, possibly due to vegetation cover. <2>

The site was visited again by C Dagg in 2025 during a controlled strip in advance of a development consisting of an access road and hardstanding
for agricultural buildings, passing close to the hut circle. Although occupying prominent high ground, the roundhouse was found to be poorly defined, with some low banking visible to the east but it was for the most part covered by a large juniper bush. The associated field system was found to consist of three or four low mounds, probably representing field clearance, occupying or adjacent to low ground approximately 30m in diameter between the roundhouse and a low ridge to the north west. No features of cultivation were found along the corridor of the proposed access track or the proposed development site. <3>
