'C' : NC 9337 1268) Enclosures (NR).
OS 6"map, (1963.

The remains of three circular enclosures were found during field investigation. Visited by OS (E G C) 3 June 1961.

A settlement of three circular stone-walled hut circles situated in undulating moorland, within the area of a depopulated settlement.
Huts 'A' and 'B' are of similar form, each 8.5m internal diameter within a wall, 0.5m high, and 2-2.5m estimated thickness, but spread. The inner face of slabs on edge is visible intermittently. The entrance is in SE arc; in 'A', two inner portal stones 0.7m apart and a displaced outer remain, whereas entrance to 'B' can be seen as a slight lowering of wall. Attached to each hut to the east of the entrance is a sub-rectangular enclosure measuring internally 6m by 5.5m (A), and 6m by 3m (B) within a wall spread to about 1.5m broad. The form of these enclosures is obscured by large amounts of debris, but they appear similar in construction to the footings of a deserted croft with corn-drying kiln, 50m to ENE, and a further sub-rectangular enclosure (D) 40m to the NW, which measures 6m by 3m within a wall spread to 1.5m broad.
Hut 'C' is smaller than the others with narrower walls. It measures 7m internal diameter within a wall 0.2m high, spread to 1.5m broad, but widening to 2.5m at the entrance, in the SE.
There is no trace of cultivation contemporary with the huts; narrow rig associated with the deserted croft abounds.
Revised at 1/10,000. Visited by OS (N K B) 13 May 1976.

The hut circle is visible in vertical aerial photography. <1>

NOTE: see MHG13173 for details regarding the croft and associated features of a surrounding township.
