Full Description

NC91SW 29 9414 1437.
A poorly preserved, circular stone-walled hut circle levelled into the top of a low rise, was discovered during field investigation. It is about 10m diameter inside a turf-covered wall spread to 2.5m; in the west arc a large slab protruding through the rubble may be an outer facing stone in situ which would indicate a wall thickness of 1.6m at this point. There is no entrance visible.
The hut is situated in an area of 18th/19th century abandoned settlement and almost adjacent to it in the south are the ruins of a domestic dwelling of this date; the interior of the hut appears to have been cultivated, most probably during this period. There are no traces of an associated field system.
Surveyed at 1:10,560. Visited by OS (J M) 2 March 1976.
