Full Description
Enclosures (NR) (Three shown A-C)
OS 6" map, (1964)
Three hut circles were located during field investigation
Visited by OS (W D J) 24 May 1960.
A settlement of three hut circles ('A'-'C') is situated on an E-facing slope.
'A' the most clearly defined of the group is about 10.5m in diameter internally, with the SW arc destroyed. Intermittent inner facing stones are visible in the NE quarter where the wall is 0.8m high internally, and 2.0m wide. The entrance in the SE opens into a possible outer compartment abutting the wall. It measures 6.5m by 3.5m within a slight stone bank, with a spread of 1.5m; this area has not been levelled. The compartment was possibly entered where the wall closes to the S of the huts entrance. The feature is too obscure to judge whether it is contemporary with the hut.
'B' slightly set in and built onto the slope is internally 7.5m N-S by 6.5m.
'C' is visible as a platform set into the slope. It measures overall 13.5m N-S by 10.5m. Slight traces of banking are discernible in the S and NE. The entrances of the last two huts are in the S.
The huts are surrounded by a minor field system of clearance heaps and lynchets. No clearly measurable plots were observed.
Revised at 1/10,000.
Visited by OS (J B) 12 May 1976.
