Full Description
NC70NW 64 7036 0555
Centred on NC 703 056, along a sheltered west-facing slope, is a scatter of stony mounds typical of hut circle-associated field clearance.
Visited by OS (J M) 20 May 1981.
There are about fifteen small cairns (ROG95 977), measuring up to 5m in diameter and 0.4m in height, on a well-drained terrace to the N of a rocky knoll. Amongst the small cairns there are some short lengths of lynchets, most of which appear to accentuate natural breaks of slope.
The hut-circle (ROG95 582, NC 7036 0555) is levelled into a terrace to the S of the knoll and measures 12.5m in diameter within a stony bank spread to 2m in thickness and 0.4m in height. The entrance lies on the W, and the slight remains of what may have been a hut lie within the interior.
Along the terrace to the WNW of the hut-circle there is an earth-and-stone banked enclosure, which may have been associated with the township to the ESE (NC 70NW 89). The interior may have been cultivated and contains a stone-clearance heap about 2m in diameter.
