Full Description
NC70SE 46 7577 0103
Two contiguous enclosures, 11.0m and 5.0m in diameter, formed by stone walls, average width 1.1m and up to 0.7m high. Although superficially resembling a hut with annexe, their good preservation and proximity to an area of depopulation suggest that they are comparatively recent structures.
Visited by OS 15 April 1964 and 9 September 1975.
A DBA and walkover survey was carried out by Wordsworth Archaeological Services in 1997 advance of a proposed woodland grant scheme at Morvich, Sutherland.
This enclosure as drawn contains at least three longhouse structures. As the most northerly contains a corn-drying kiln, this may well have been a grain processing area with the long building to the south being used for threshing. These features are relatively well preserved. <1>
