Full Description

A hut circle at Achamore, first recorded by the OS as hut circle 'A'. For hut circle 'B' see MHG63585.

Centred at NC 742 579, within the deserted township of Achamore (NC75NW 37), are two hut circles ('A' and 'B').
'A' is turf covered and measures 12m in diameter within a low wall spread to 1.5m. The entrance is in the south east.
'B' is set on top of a knoll; the remains are obscure and survive as a platform about 13m in overall diameter. In the north arc where the wall is traceable, it is spread to 1.5m. The hut has been disfigured in the south, probably destroying the entrance.
Except for a few isolated clearance heaps there is no trace of associated cultivation; the area has been largely cultivated by the later occupants.
Surveyed at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (J B) 30 August 1977.

The site is visible on vertical aerial photographs taken in 2009. <1>
