Full Description

NC75SW 45 744 548.

At NC 74495 483 and NC 7444 5489, a S facing shelving ground, are two hut circles (A and B respectively) accompanied by a minor field system. A, set into the slope and obscured by peat and bracken, is 7.5 by 5.5m inside a slight wall reduced to a low, 1.5m broad spread; an entrance is from the S on the line of the long axis. In the hut interior is a shieling footing, 2.5m diameter.
B, completely heather-covered, is 9m in diameter within a wall 0.3m high and spread to 2m. The entrance is in SE.
The minor field system is distinguished in general by sporadic stone clearance heaps along the neighbouring slopes and in particular by a stretch of ruinous walling SW of hut A; no measurable cultivation plots are identified.
About 20m NW of hut A in a hollow are the remains of a mound, about 6m diameter, set against the slope with its robbed centre occupied by a shieling footing measuring 3 by 2.5m. It is "kiln-like" in appearance, but may be simply a stone clearance heap quarried to accomodate the shieling.
Surveyed at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (J M) 21 July 1977.
