Full Description
NC71SE 27 7993 1200 and 7994 1195.
Centred NR 799 120. Two circular stone-walled hut circles ('A' and 'B') were discovered during field investigation on the lower reaches of an east-facing hill-slope.
NC 7993 1220. Hut 'A' measures 10.5m internal diameter within a heather-covered wall of which the inner face is visible intermittently as slabs on edge. The wall is 1.7m estimated thickness broadening to 2.5m at the entrance gap in the ESE, where two upright portal stones define the W side. Hut 'B' (NC 7994 1195),set into and built up on a slope,is about 8.0m diameter within a robust boulder wall spread to 2.0m wide. The entrance gap is in the SE and a break in the west arc is a mutilation.
Contemporary cultivation is confined to an area of cleared ground to the west of hut 'A' containing one or two clearance heaps and some linear clearance. The area to the south and east of hut 'B' contains field walls and lynchets, but some of these are of 18/19th century date. Surveyed at 1:10,560.
Visited by OS (J M) 3 December 1976.
