(NH 7835 9442) Hut Circle (NR), (NH 783 942 and NH 786 943) Cairns (NR) OS 6" map, (1960)

A hut circle, the 'outer circle' surviving to a height of 1 1/2 to 2ft (ONB 9 1873).
There are a number of small mounds in the vicinity of the cairn (NH79SE 5) (RCAHMS 1911)
Name Book 1873; RCAHMS 1911, visited 1909.

In Skelbo Wood are the remains of a stone-walled hut, c9m in diameter between wall centres, now so mutilated by afforestation that the wall thickness and position of the entrance cannot be ascertained. The few 'cairns' surviving of those published on OS 6" are stone clearance heaps, probably from a contemporary field system.
Revised at 1/2500. Visited by OS (N K B) 11 November 1969.
