Full Description
NC50SE 15 5867 0227.
At NC 5867 0227 is an oval stone-walled hut circle stand- ing within a contemporary sub-rectangular enclosure. The situation is rising moorland open to the SW.
Visited by OS (I S S) 9 June 1971.
This hut measures about 7.5m N-S by 6.0m internally. The wall, part peat-covered, is 0.6m high and is about 1.4m wide; an entrance is in the S. The hut lies within an area of cleared ground bounded in the SW and SE by tumbled walling spread to 3.0m wide, in the NW by a lynchet, and in the NE by bog and rough ground, thereby enclosing an area about 70.0m NE-SW by about 40.0m. One or two stone clearance heaps occur within the enclosure, and the field system extends some way beyond it. A scatter of clearance mounds and a lynchet can be seen on a rise some 100.0m to the SW.
Surveyed at 1:10 000.
Visited by OS (J M) 29 July 1976.
