(A: NC 5822 0083 and B: NC 5823 0079) Hut Circles (NR)
OS 1:10,000 map, (1970)

Two stone-walled hut circles (A and B) found during fieldwork.
Visited by OS (R D L) 25 June 1963.

These two huts occur on a west-facing hillside within a depopulated crofting township containing narrow rig. There is no evidence of cultivation contemporary with the huts in their immediate vicinity (but see NC50SE 9 nearby). They are similar in appearance, 'A' being 12.5m NNE - SSW by 10.5m, and 'B' being 12.0m in diameter within tumbled walls spread to 3.0m wide, and in places surviving to an internal height of 1.4m, though reduced elsewhere. The simple entrance to hut 'A' is in the SSW arc, but that to 'B' is uncertain; there is a break 4.0m wide in the NW arc which is probably a mutilation. A more likely position is in the SW where there are two upright slabs which resemble portal stones, though no gap exists. From the entrance to 'A', and partially blocking it, is a wall revetted with large stones, which describes an arc around the west side of the hut before rejoining it in the north sector, thereby forming a crescentic enclosure against the hut exterior. Its 'floor' is lower than that of the hut. Its date and purpose cannot be determined, and it is uncertain whether it is contemporary with the hut or with the crofting township.
Revised at 1/10,000.
Visited by OS (J M) 22 July 1976.
