(NC 5862 1240) Hut Circle (NR)
OS 1:10,000 map (1970)

Discovered during field investigation is a hut circle accompanied by at least six enclosures and numerous field clearance heaps. The hut circle, measuring 8.4m in diameter, has a grassy, stone bank 1.0m thick and 0.4m high with an entrance in the SE. The enclosures vary in diameter from 6.0m to 14.5m and comprise grassed-over earth and stone banks, the best preserved having a maximum external height of 1.1m and an internal height of 0.4m. Most of the entrances are in the SE. The whole area has been afforested and all the features mutilated by forestry ploughing.
Visited by OS (EGC) 4 April 1964

The feature annotated as a hut circle at NC 5862 1240 is a modern sheepfold surviving to its original height. The stone-walled hut at NC 5860 1238 is that described in the previous field report, but severely mutilated by forestry ploughing and planting and obscured by bracken. There is no trace of the enclosures noted; dense afforestation covers the whole area.
Surveyed at 1:10 000.
