Full Description

NC63NW 20 607 372.
(NC 6066 3729) Unannotated circle. OS 6" map, (1964)

Centred at NC 607 372 on a SW-facing hillslope, is a settlement of three hut-circles ('A'-'C') including the circle published on OS 6"map (A). The latter is clearly defined, and measures 9m in diameter within a double wall with both faces preserved for relatively long stretches. The wall is generally about 1.3m wide, enlarging to 2.2m at the stone-lined entrance in the W. Inside the hut a small amorphous heap of stones abuts the E arc, possibly the remains of a later structure. In contrast to 'A', 'B' and 'C' are both ill-defined, with 'B' marginally the better-preserved. They are evident as turf-covered platforms scooped slightly into the slope. They measure 8m N-S by 7m and 9m in diameter respectively within the faint traces of a wall. A large upright block around the W arc of C is of uncertain purpose, the likelihood of it being a portal or facing stone is questioned by its incorrect alignment. There are no other signs of an entrance on either hut. Up to a half a dozen clearance heaps are the only indications of contemporary cultivation in the vicinity.
Surveyed at 1:10,560. Visited by OS (J B) 24 March 1977.
