Full Description
A kerb cairn near the Altnagar Lodge Hotel.
Found during field investigation at NH 5831 9917 is a cairn situated in a conspicuous position on the brink of a SW-facing slope. Five kerbstones, three displaced, are visible around the perimeter, and deep heather and peat may obscure others. Mutilation in the centre has exposed a prostrate boulder 1.0m NW-SE by 0.7m by 0.2m thick, which appears to be an undisturbed cist cover slab.
Surveyed at 1:10 560. Visited by OS (A A) 25 September 1973.
The cairn would seem to be about 6m diameter. Other details correct as noted.
Surveyed at 1:10 000. Visited by OS (J M) 27 October 1976.
This cairn was not located on the date of visit due to bracken cover. Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) October 1989.
The cairn appears to be visible as a circular feature just to the east of one of the two nearby hut circles on vertical aerial photographs taken in 2016. <1>
